    Got Issues?

I recently received in the mail 3 issues each of the Halloween and Christmas ornament issues of Just Cross Stitch magazine from their very sweet editor. However, I had already purchased my issues when they were first released, so now I have 3 copies of each that I'd love to give away.

I'm sure those of you who wanted the issues have already purchased them, but just in case there are a few of you who haven't, just leave a comment here about which issue you'd like, and I'll draw names from there. If there are only a few of you, perfect! We'll draw the first ones in line. And if there is not a single soul out there who hasn't already gotten the issue they wanted, then I'll give the magazines as Christmas presents to my family. teeheehee.

I hope you like stitching ornaments, honey!

Btw, for January 2011's issue of Just Cross Stitch, I had the pleasure of being invited to be one of their featured designers! Woohoo! I designed a little piece called Winter Wind Sampler. I hope you like it!

    Pink Christmas Ribbons

As many of you know, The Attic Needleworks holds a silent auction each year to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. This year they went a step further and had a "cookbook with benefits" published, of which I was asked to be a small part. What an honor! The book is called Recipes for a Cure, and all of the designs in the book were stitched by Paula Sibbald of Kelmscott Designs, and then donated to The Attic's silent auction. What a labor of love!

If you'd like to bid on any of these ornaments – as well as many other ornaments, gorgeous samplers and vintage needlework accessories! – please click on this link and head over to the newsletters to see all of the beautiful stitched pieces that are up for auction…

    http://www.atticneedlework.com/newsletter.html

I greatly admire the effort that the ladies at The Attic – and all those who donated their time by stitching those wonderful pieces – put in for a cause that is so close to many people's hearts.

    Enjoy your day!

    School’s in Session

In addition to HallowEden, I've got another new release coming out at the online Needlework Show. It's called Miss Lucian's School for Girls, Lesson One. There will be more in this series, but they need to be designed first!

The Needlework Show starts on October 21st and runs through the 26th. If you see something you'd like, just inform your shopowner and if they're registered to "attend" the show, they'll place your order. Easy!

    Dog-gone Giveaway

Yesterday I got a completely fur-brained idea that I'd try to get a fall photo of the dogs together, all sitting on my front porch.

    This was a complete fiasco.

When I opened the front door and called for them, they immediately obeyed, and the raucus sound of 12 clawed paws stampeding across the kitchen floor was enough to make me want to change my mind and just photograph the quiet pumpkins instead. Nevertheless, I pressed on, willing myself to be patient with the beasts, knowing they were just thrilled to death that I was allowing them out in the front of the house instead of out back.

I let them get some of the wiggles out by running from driveway to driveway, sniffing what they may, and I called them back. They all ran up onto the porch like good little hounds, but that's when the trouble began…

"Friday, sit!" Friday sat, but Tasha jumped up to nip at him bc he was being a brown-noser.

"Tasha, stop!" Tasha stopped, but Missy lunged at her neck, growling like Cujo bc I had spoken to Tasha and not to her.

"Missy, quit!" Missy quit, but Friday got nervous that he was still sitting and hadn't gotten a treat for it, so he got up to sniff at Missy.

"No, Friday, sit!" Friday sat, but Missy again lunged for Tasha's neck, growling like Cujo bc I spoke to Friday instead of to her.

"Missy, that's enough!" Missy looked at me adoringly, but Tasha jumped up and tried to nip Friday bc he was being too compliant and refuses to get in touch with his inner samurai, as she has done.

It was then that I got the idea to get their favorite treats: Wheat Thins. I opened the door to go back inside to fetch them, and all the dogs came running in after me. When I tried to lure them back outside, only one at a time would follow me, darting out onto the porch, but then running back inside, hoping I'd follow them so they could eat their treats inside the house. Back and forth, back and forth we went, trying to convince each other that inside or outside was better, and I finally gave up and decided to just take each of their photos as they'd come to the door.

Mind you, with each photo I'd have to dole out a Wheat Thin, and then the next pooch would take their place…

In the mean time, I'm going to go photograph the quiet pumpkins.

    Heaven Gave…Friends

My very first internet-friend, Chris, finished my Heaven Gave Rain pattern recently, and she sent photos to prove it. :)  I'm always pressing Chris to start a blog to showcase her work, bc truly she has the most amazing eye for color and decor. Everything she touches is transformed into something beautiful!

    Love and Joy

I got my Just Cross Stitch holiday ornament issue yesterday, so I guess that means I can share these now. I really enjoyed designing this ornament, and was very happy to be invited to submit one this year…

The only problem is, every single time I see it I immediately start singing the Christmas carol in my head, for at least an hour afterward. I suppose that's okay though, bc I really love Christmas carols.

Love and Joy to you  – and Happy Memorial Day too!

ETA: Thank you, Bonnie, for pointing out to me that it is NOT Memorial Day today. It's LABOR Day! Oh good grief. See what happens when I blog without caffeine?

    Finishes!

These are way overdue… It's always so much fun to get these – I just wish I was quicker about posting them!

This is Lisa's "Hares' Fathers Day" finish… she made it into an easel to set on her Dad's computer desk (and she said he liked it! I'm so happy!)…

    And here's the side…

    Hare's Father's Day side

What a great way to finish this, Lisa! (Say hi to your dad for me.)

This next finish is from Cathy Lloyd, and it took her 6 months to do… but she said she "enjoyed every minute of it," so for that I can breathe a huge sigh of relief. 🙂 I can't remember how long it took me to stitch it, but I do remember going through a lot of audiobooks to reach the end. Here is Cathy's "Paradise Lost," framed by the one-and-only Jill Rensel…

    And another view…

Cathy, this is outstanding! Beautiful work!

And finally we have a "My Pretties" finish by Cathi…I love how she finished this!

I never really thought about how this design doesn't have to be Halloween-themed. Cathi, you did a great job of looking at it from a different perspective.. your finishing fabric is so pretty!

Thank you SO MUCH for sending me your finish photos. I am always humbled when I realize that there are people out there who actually like what I come up with. I am truly blessed.

    To and Fro

I've been extremely busy this past week getting organized around the house, finding any available space for the things we were able to haul from Kansas last week,  getting school and dorm shopping done, filling orders, and cleaning up the Yorkie's calling cards.

(And did I mention that Breanna has hired me to stitch her new models for her? For free? How is it, at 19 years old, she still has me wrapped around her finger?)

I did manage, however, to complete Sea Hag and get her photo taken this morning for a sneak. She'll be released in September at the St. Charles market, and I really hope you all like her!

Guess I'd better get to Bre's models before she sees me sitting here slacking and fires me.

    On second thought…

    Finishes!

I thought yesterday's post would be my last for a week or so, but I found some extra time on my hands before I leave for the bustling city of Dallas, and thought I'd share some finishes that were sent to me!

This is Salem Sisters II, from Marika.. she's a cyperpal of mine from New Orleans. One of these days I just might take you up on your offer of a Mardi Gras boa, Marika! 😉

    Marika
Great job, and congrats on finally stitching something for yourself! 🙂

These freebies were finished by Cathi in Berlin.. she made a few changes to them, and I think they turned out great!

Thank you for sharing them, Cathi! (Btw, all freebies can be found in the "Freebie" link in the sidebar under Categories.

Here is Sandrine's Trifle for a Friend freebie.. beautiful colors, Sandrine! I love seeing how people have changed this chart to suit their tastes.

    Sandrine
And finally, here is Margit from Germany's  Hares' Visit she made for a sick friend.. I love how Margit has put this together! What a kind friend you are to share a stitched piece with your friend, Margit, and I'm honored that you chose one of the hares to give to her. :)

I'd like to thank you all for your lovely emails and shared finishes – they never cease to make me smile. Thank you!

    I'll see you all soon!

    Decisions

Well, thanks to my good pal Carol Sims giving me permission to do as I please, I've decided not to release the Noah's Ark piece for the St. Charles market. There is absolutely no way I can finish it in time, so rather than stress about it like I have been doing, I've decided to take my time on it and shoot for Nashville. It was either stitch solely on Noah and have nothing else to release, or work on some other ideas I've got and push Noah back a bit farther.

Once I made the decision, my day brightened up considerably! I assembled the supplies to start a new model and got busy. 🙂

    Stitching tp 1

I know, Mom. I'm sorry if I can't be PERFECTLY organized like you. But I'm also happier than you. teehee.

I've had a great day today, btw! Went to the track and pulled a groin muscle (I've never done that before, so it was a new life experience)(do girls have groin muscles?), went grocery shopping at Target and had no coupons (no room in my purse for them bc of all the old receipts), made a brand new and absolutely delicious Mexican casserole and ate it by myself (no one was home and I didn't feel like figuring out where they all were)(or waiting for them to get home), went to the camera shop and… well, we won't go there… and now I'm sitting here drinking coffee and not hearing any dog noises (which probably means The Yorkie has had another on-purpose on my carpeting and is in hiding).

    The Yorkie tp 3

At least I don't have to work on Noah.
