    Memorial Day Cookout

My parents invited us over for one of their fabulous cookouts this evening, and as usual it was… well… fabulous. My dad smoked some ribs and chicken, and Mom clearly spent the entire day in the kitchen. Deviled eggs, potato salad, homemade bbq sauce, beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, homemade ice cream, caramel nut bars, and who knows what else! All we provided was a cake and our appetites. (That's what my mom always says when I ask her if I can bring anything: "Just your appetites!" she says.)

Mike brought over a new lawn game… something about monkeys and balls. I never did figure it out.

    Mday tp 12

Maybe it was monkey bars and balls? Oh, I don't know. But Sophie and her friend Jenny had fun with it.

    Here's Major Pain. He's Friday's brother, and such a sweetheart…

Sabrina spent the better part of the night spoiling him…

Sophie let me take her picture while Jenny was hiding for a game of Hide-and-Go-Seek (plus it gave her an excuse to open her eyes while she was counting)…

Mom always has the best bowls and pitchers and fresh garden flowers!

    Mday tp 1

(I don't need pretty pitchers bc my kids just drink out of the kitchen faucet and Mike drinks straight from the milk jug, which annoys the frapp out of me, but he doesn't really mind.)

This is the only picture Mom would let me take of her; she's coming through the door from the deck with a plateful of ribs…

    Mday tp 2

The peonies from my parents' back yard are so beautiful…

    Mday tp 4

Here's Bean on the deck outside…I'm going to miss her so badly when she leaves for Germany in a couple of days…

    Mday tp 11

My mom bought these really cool food tents for outside. I'd never heard of them before, and I loved them!

    Mday tp 5

Mike thought they made great mosquito-net hats, which probably annoyed the frapp out of my mother.

    Mday tp 15

    Mday tp 14

There's not a whole lot that annoys my dad. He usually keeps his thoughts to himself.

    Mday tp 13

The weather was beautiful, Mike left the bored games at home, and the food was absolutely delicious. The whole evening was just…well, fabulous.

    Sweet Boy

    Hi, Friday-boy!

    Friday tp 2

Guess what! You get to go to the groomer today! Doesn't that sound like fun??

    Friday tp 3

What's wrong? Why won't you look at me? Is it something I said?

    Friday tp 1

Don't worry, boy. You'll smell dirty-doggish again in no time.

    I promise.

    Here's a sneak peek at Olga…

She's an odd-looking feline (I've always liked odd), stitched with Crescent Colours and 36 ct. Vintage Tarnished Silver by Lakeside Linens. I'm not sure of the release date yet, as the chart hasn't even been written up, but I'm looking at very early June.

    I hope you like her!

    Double Digits

Today is Sophie's 10th birthday, and all she's talked about is how she's FINALLY in the "double digits." I'm so proud of my sweet girl, and for what a lovely young lady she is.

I have hundreds and hundreds of photos of my Sophie, but here are just a few of my favorites…

This was my favorite dress on her (she was at one of Sabrina's soccer games)…

This one cracks me up, bc the older girls and I were getting ready to head out to a cheerleading banquet, and we all bent over to have our picture taken with Sophie…but she bent over too!

If I've posted this once, I've posted it a thousand times, but I can't help it! It's my all-time very very very favorite picture. My brother loves his nieces, and they love him. 🙂

    Blooming

I've had fun peeking around and taking pictures of different flowers just opening up…

If you've visited my mom's blog lately, you've seen parts of her lovely garden, and I'm excited for everything to open up bc it's all so beautiful. It's always fun to see what new things she and my dad decide to plant and grow.

The photo of the bloom below is from my own back yard, but it was in mother's back yard at one time. Last year she decided to thin out some things, and I was happy to take her hand-me-downs. (Wouldn't that be a sweet name for a type of flower?)

    Geranium tp

These daisies were given to me by a neighbor about 15 years ago, who didn't want them in her garden any more…

This little fellow was visiting an opening bud… just after I took this photo, he ran underneath a petal.

I love these sturdy little plants…

Oh – and one more thing my mother passed on from her garden to mine…

    (Teehee)

That's it for the flower photos, but before I go I'd like to show you Brea's new hair cut… it was a really tough decision to get a whopping 10 inches cut off, but I'm glad she went for it. 🙂 Don't worry, sweet girl. It will grow back.

Just like the dandelions in Meems' yard.

    Colonial Love

I'll be without a computer for a few days bc my hard drive is about to crash and burn (keep getting those nasty warnings), but before I call Breanna's computer friend to come to the rescue, I thought I'd hop on here and show you what I got back from Jill Rensel Art Studio a couple of weeks ago.

I can't remember off the top of my head what this pattern is called, but I do know that it's by The Goode Huswife, and I'll soon be stitching his companion to go along with him…

As you can see, I've still got the cardboard backing on it and no glass yet.. I just haven't had the time to mount it and get it all finished! I'll plan on doing that this week so I can finally hang it up.

    Isn't Jill the best?? 🙂

Keep your fingers crossed that my poor workhorse of a pc is an easy fix. If it is, then I'll see you soon!

    Number 17

I remember the first time Sophie tried to be on a soccer team. She was so excited. We signed her up, paid the fees, bought her a new soccer ball and uniform and cleats, and geared up for her first game. When the whistle blew to sound the start of the game and the girls all started scurrying around the ball, Sophie was there too. But she wasn't scurrying around the ball. She was sobbing.

We called her to the sidelines to find out what was wrong and to comfort her. We begged her to rejoin the game. We coddled and cajoled, but there was no sportsmanlike conduct to be had from Sophie.

"What's wrong, Sweety?" we would ask. "Are you hurt? Did someone step on your toe? Are your shin guards too tight?" We even thought maybe the parents cheering and yelling had frightened her.

We found out later what it was. In Sophie's 6-year-old voice, she explained why she quit soccer and never wanted to return to the game: "I was ready to play the game, but when I saw Sabrina on the side of the field playing with some other kid, I got jealous and didn't want to play soccer ever again."

Sophie is now almost 10 and the scars of betrayal by her older sister playing with some other kid have healed.

And I'm proud to say she has returned to the game.

    I Heart My Family.

I had a lovely Mothers Day, and I hope you did too. 🙂

    Mothers day tp

One of the things I did to help my family celebrate me (haha) was to make them their favorite dessert… Oreo Freeze. If you'd like the recipe, I'm posting it just a click away at Four Seasons Cafe.

And after that, I'm off to drink some coffee and stitch!

OH! And before I forget, Sophie wanted me to please let anyone who will listen know that she has finally updated her blog. 😉  (Is that okay, Sophie?)
