FAQ’s Regarding the Sunday Mystery Sampler

    Hi again!

I just thought I'd answer a few questions I've received before the stitch-along starts. If you have any other questions, feel free to leave them in the comments and I'll address them in another blog post. 🙂

Q: HOW MUCH DOES THIS MYSTERY SAMPLER COST?
A: It's free! Just come back here each Sunday for the next 10 weeks, and download to your heart's content.

Q: WHERE DO I FIND THE CHARTS TO DOWNLOAD/WHAT IS THE URL/WHAT IS THE WEBSITE ADDRESS?
A: You're right where you should be! Just come to my blog, right where you find yourself now, and you'll find a link to open up and print the PDF's. You will also see an image of the chart in front of you; DO NOT TRY TO DOWNLOAD THE IMAGE. Not because the Feds will surround your house or anything, but because you won't get the chart to print properly. Make sure you use the link I provide you to allow your computer to open up the file. Your printer will love you for it. (And if your printer doesn't work, you can always stitch it from your computer monitor!)

Q: WHAT IF I MISS A WEEK OR TWO BECAUSE I'M OUT OF TOWN?
A: No worries! I will keep the charts up for as long as I keep my blog. (Mary's Sampler was published in 2013 and still remains under "Sunday Mystery Sampler" in the right side-bar.) All you'll need to do when you return to your computer is to scroll down to whichever posts you missed and find the link to open up the charts. REMEMBER: Do not try printing from the picture of the chart; this is not the file your computer wants to print, or you'll use a whole lot of unnecessary toner!

Q: WHAT WERE THE ORIGINAL THREADS AND FABRIC YOU USED IN THE FIRST TWO ORNAMENTS RELEASED IN THE JUST CROSS STITCH MAGAZINES?
A: I used Belle Soie (now Classic Colorworks) Cranberry for the red, and Weathered Vine for the green. For the fabric, I used 36 ct. Vintage Light Examplar by Lakeside Linens. However, please use any fibers and fabric you like, including Aida. There are no specialty stitches – everything is worked in full cross stitches over two threads (for linen users), so there will be no issues if you prefer Aida. And you can use one or two strands as well.. there are no rules!

I think that covers it so far.. if I've left anything out, please let me know! I'm here to help! Enjoy your day. 🙂

    The 2015 Sunday Mystery Sampler!

When I announced the first Sunday Mystery Sampler in 2013, I was so surprised at the enormous response! I couldn't believe how many of you tuned in each week on my blog to download each installment of the mystery… and what fun it was to see everyone's progress on all the Mary's Samplers out there! (For those of you who missed out, the installments are all still there under Sunday Mystery Sampler in the right side-bar of the blog.)

I've been mulling over doing one again this year for some time now, but just couldn't figure out what it was I wanted to do. And then it slowly dawned on me…

Back in 2011, I submitted an ornament to Just Cross Stitch for their annual Christmas Preview Issue. I went with a "Twelve Days of Christmas" theme, and proudly titled my ornament submission "First Day."

    2011

Then, in 2012, I followed it up with "Second Day."

    2012

Shortly afterward, I started receiving the occasional email from various subscribers, gently mentioning to me that it would take a full twelve years at that rate to actually have the whole set. I was absolutely stunned that I had never thought of that before!

So to the back burner the Twelve Days of Christmas ornaments idea went… until I realized very recently that it would be awfully fun to finish the entire series in one fell swoop and offer them for free – and all in time for Christmas 2015!

This year's Sunday Mystery Sampler will be all twelve days, and they can be stitched individually, as ornaments, or all together, as one large sampler! (I can't decide which option I like better.)

If you have the first two stitched, then you've got a good head start. But if you don't, it's okay! Here are all the details you'll need to know… (ETA: The original red was Belle Soie (now Classic Colorworks) Cranberry, and the original green was Belle Soie (now Classic Colorsworks) Weathered Vine. The original fabric used was Lakeside Linens' 36 ct. Vintage Light Examplar.)

     I'll see you soon!

ETA: I found a photo for Second Day! I can't seem to find one for First Day though..

    Mary’s Sampler, Finale

    Knock-knock.

    Who's there?

    Mary.

    Mary who?

What do you mean, Mary who? Where have you been for the last 9 weeks?

    🙂

And so we arrive at the last section of our Sunday Mystery Sampler. I hope you've enjoyed yourself, and that the pace has been manageable for you. And if not, then I do hope you're able to find some time for yourself to sit still and stitch a little on something that brings you joy… stitching is certainly a lovely therapy for this bustling season we're in, and I thank The Lord for allowing me the pleasure of it.

I had quite a fretful time waiting for Mary to arrive this week, as it was temporarily lost in the mail system… in the end, however, it turned up on my doorstep, and I was thrilled with what Sherri at Total Framing had done with it! I asked her to surprise me, and she chose to use this elegant gold lip (gold, a gift for the King!) surrounded by a rich, distressed wood (suggestive of the rugged cross God's Lamb would eventually face). Thank you so much, Sherri.. you have outdone yourself yet again.

And I thank you for spending your Sundays with me these past 9 weeks. This sampler "journey" has been a delight for me, and I'm so grateful to you all for your kind words and for sharing your progress with me each week. I hope you've enjoyed stitching this little sampler, and that when you look at your finished piece, you'll remember that He is the Light of the world – not just at Christmas time, but every day of the year.

May you have His joy this season.

    Love, Paulette

    Mary’s Sampler, Part 7

Oh my, this is exciting! We're almost there…

The verse for this week really struck me. It seemed like the softest thing that God was acknowledging about Mary. It doesn't change anything about what happened before or after Christ's birth; yet, it's there, right in the middle of everything that's going on… like something The Lord paused for, just for us to know that Mary, indeed, loved her newborn baby – God's gift of Himself to the world.

    Mary’s Sampler, Part 6

It's the best time of year! Halloween is past, and it's time for the real fun to begin – with lots of baking, decorating, and counting down the days to Mom's turkey and Honeybaked Ham's ham and Dad's punch and Bre's (and  Josh's?) sweet company and Sabrina's snoozing-while-everyone-is-cleaning and Sophie's speedy texting and Mike's hollering at the tv because Tony Romo has made him very, very angry. I'm so excited!

Welcome back to the Sunday Mystery Sampler! Your printable links are below.

    Mary’s Sampler, Part 5

Welcome back! Is everyone still hanging in there? We've only got 4 weeks left after today! If you've fallen behind, or decided to just catch up at a later date, I'd like to gently urge you to get caught up as soon as possible (if you really do want a newly-finished sampler to begin your holiday season with!), because for both Mary's Sampler and Mary's Sampler II, the final week will take longer to finish than what our average motifs have taken us; I'd be sad if I heard you say, "Oh no! Why didn't I keep up? Wello shoot, now I may as well just go eat a gallon of Haagen Dazs." 🙂

Your printable links are below the post, as always. 🙂 Have a lovely Sunday!

    Mary’s Sampler, Part 4

With Halloween fast approaching, I hope your pre-Christmas spirit isn't being overshadowed by candy corn and goblins! 🙂 Here is this week's installment – and everyone say this in unison:

"Please don't click on the images themselves, but use the links posted at the bottom of this post for printing."

    Mary’s Sampler, Part 3

Here we go, on with the third installment! Those of you stitching Mary's Sampler II will find that you finally have more to stitch than what's on the original version. And so it begins!

Remember to download the PDF links at the bottom of the post to print your pages – do not click on the images themselves! I know this is the third week in a row you've had to hear that, but I just don't want anyone to forget and then be really, really frustrated. Frustration and stitching are not good companions. 🙂

    Mary’s Sampler, Part 2

How did it go this week? Did everyone get part 1 finished up? I hope you all had an enjoyable time with it, and that you're looking forward to this week's installment! (Thank goodness, I've stitched ahead, because this Sunday I'm in Virginia Beach, teaching at the Dyeing to Stitch retreat!)

Today (or whenever you find the time) you'll stitch the manger and star next to Mary. Remember that although the motifs are the same again this week on both Mary's Sampler I and II, their placement is different, so follow the correct chart!

And another reminder: if you click on the actual image of the page you see, your printer won't like you very well. Be sure and opt for the PDF links that I'll list at the very bottom of the post to print out this week's pages. Have a lovely Sunday!
