    Market Preview #2

    Hi again!

This morning I've got a little needle packet pouch to show you! I stitched this up very quickly, and if you've never used The Gentle Art's Burnt Orange floss before, it's such a treat to work with. The variation is so beautiful, and each flower turns out a little differently. (By the way, I like to cut a few different lengths from one skein of overdyed/variegated floss and alternate pulling strands out from each of them so that I can have less of a repeat in variation. Maybe you all do that too, but just in case you don't, I thought I'd share that with you – it's a fun little thing to be surprised with, as the new hues take turns showing up in your stitches.)

Here is My Pinzzz…. the second of my three bee designs for market:

    IMG_1415

    Stitch Count: 76w x 77h

Fabric used: 40 ct. Ale by Picture This Plus (using 36 ct. or lower
would be perfectly fine.. it would still turn out to be miniature, although
you may want to bring in the margin seams around your stitching when
finishing it into a pocket in order to keep it small).

The Gentle Art threads used (with their DMC equivalents in parentheses):
    Dark Chocolate (3021)
    Wood Smoke (3790)
    Caramel Corn (DMC 739)
    Endive (DMC 3011)
    Burnt Orange (DMC 376)
    Chamomile (DMC 371)
    Wood Trail (DMC 3031)

I used a simple silk ribbon and an eyelet for the hanger, but you could easily attach a button and cording or trim, or not have a hanger at all. I usually have packets of needles here and there, and this keeps them all in a tidy little place. 🙂 It's a quick little project for a fall weekend, along with a cup of coffee or tea. (And the tea really should have honey in it, if you want to keep the theme of the pocket!)

Some of you may have already seen this preview on Instagram, when I posted it a few days ago. If you're new to Instagram, there's a lot of fun stitching pictures to look at that will give you great motivation to pick up your own projects, or my favorite: order new ones! Instagram is available for both Android and Apple, so download the app and join the fun! (My user name is plumstreetsamplers, if you want to find me.)

I'll see you soon with another preview! Only 4 more days to market!

    Coming Soon to Market…

Well goodness, I can't believe I'm leaving in just a few days for the St. Charles market, and I haven't even gotten a blog preview posted! As some of you know, I've been madly in love with bees lately… so much so that three of my six new market releases will be honeybee-themed!

    I just can't help myself!

So to start out the preview-parade (ahem), the first sampler I'll show here is one that features a verse by Isaac Watts… and who hasn't wanted a pet rooster?

    Anyone?

    Gather Honey tp

    Gathering Honey

    Stitch Count: 222(w) x 161(h)

Fabric used: 40 ct. Espresso by R&R Reproductions

The Gentle Art threads used (with DMC equivalents in parentheses):
    Mountain Mist (523)
    Tarnished Gold (610)
    Old Hickory (642)
    Endive (730) (2 skeins suggested)
    Grecian Gold (832)
    Lambswool (950)
    Wheat Fields (3045)
    Brandy (3046)
    Roasted Marshmallow (3047)
Wood Trail (3781) (2 skeins suggested)
    Old Red Paint (3830)
    Oatmeal (Ecru)

The absolutely gorgeous frame was done by none other than Sherri Berkman at Total Framing in Virginia!

I'll be back soon with another market preview. In the meantime, I hope you're finding lots of other previews and sneak peeks online that you're calling your shop owner about… I tend to show a few things and hold a few things back, just because I never know if people like the pre-order with their shop, or if they simply love to be surprised! I may end up just showing them all on Friday night though, just before the early-bird portion of the market opens. 🙂

    I can't wait!

    I love bees.

Gosh, I've loved bees forever! And I especially love the character Queenie on the BBC series Lark Rise to Candleford. The sweet gentleness with how she keeps her bees charms me (I only wish there were more scenes with her in them!), and was the inspiration for this pattern:

    The Beekeeper email w text

This will be released as a kit at the Nashville Needlework Market in a couple of weeks, exclusive to Norden Crafts. The kit comes packaged in a clear box, and contains 11 skeins of Weeks Dye Works, a piece of Natural Northern Cross linen, and a size 28 embroidery needle. The kits will be available first to shop owners that attend the market, and then any kits that are left will be available to those who were unable to attend. The retail price is $44, and if you'd like your shop owner to reserve one for you, give them a call and let them know! (This is a limited run, and this pattern will not be available in chart-only form.)

I can't wait for market! Besides The Beekeeper (which will be in Norden's room), I'll have five new designs in my room, one of which is a reproduction called Elizabeth Sarah Oliver 1842. It's absolutely full of the most charming motifs, including two sweet little dogs. I can't wait to show you! I'll be back this week with a preview of it, along with one or two more next week. 🙂

Have a lovely evening! And if you have Netflix or Amazon Prime, grab your stitching and a cup of coffee or tea and see about watching Lark Rise to Candleford! It's a lovely, meandering series, and you'll fall in love with all of the residents of both the towns of Lark Rise and of Candleford.

P.S. Here's a little something for those of you already familiar with the series: Coffee is my one weakness. 😉

    Lately.

Life goes in seasons, and I'm thankful for it. I've not found much time for blog visits, but I did want to stop in here and say hello to anyone who may stumble past Plum Street today. Here's a few of the more ordinary, in-between moments from the past few weeks – and oh, how I welcome the ordinary!

Sophie mourned for a week when she lost Loo-Loo, Bonkers' little lamb friend. But thankfully, Loo-Loo turned up in a wad of wrinkled clothing in one of Sophie's very messy dresser drawers. Lesson learned, and the drawers have been neatly organized.

    Tp 8

I baked these amazing gluten-free cupcakes, but my feeble mind refuses to remember what they were. I remember eating them, and feeling quite comfortable doing so, but looking back on them leaves me blank-faced and kind of hungry.

    Tp 7

Tasha still snores loudly and then wakes up to troll the kitchen, waiting for anything – even an ice chip – to fall to the floor.

    Tp 2

    The Yorkie lives on.

    Tp 3

Tilly still finds the dogs a most ridiculous species. (And to my delight, she actually walked past the Yorkie and spanked it on the bottom, causing the Yorkie to have a near stroke as it rabidly chased Tilly across the room in a hairy rage.)

    Tp 4

Speaking of Tilly, I noticed a particular trend regarding cat people and non-cat people. When I shared a photo of Tilly sleeping soundly on my Dutch Beauty project in my previous blog post, it was mostly cat people who commented favorably. The non-cat people, however, were horrified at the sight, and some were led to promptly email me and let me know of their shock (all in fun, of course!). Except for Margaret, who is most assuredly a feline-lover, yet also a fierce protector of her stitching. (Hi, Margaret!)

I tend to lean more toward Margaret's way of thinking, but in Tilly's case, she was just too sweet to disturb (okay, so I may have barked at her a bit), and I decided to take the time to pick cat hair out of my project once her siesta was over. After that tedium, however, I've decided she is to never sleep on my stitching again. Sorry, Tills.

When we visited California last summer, Mike and I discovered Rubio's fish tacos, and I've dreamed of them ever since. My cravings were so strong recently that I decided to look for a copycat recipe online, and found one!

    Tp 5

    Tp 6

If you've never had a fish taco bc the sound of it is just wrong, please know that you're missing out. If you don't like fish, however, then you're not missing a thing. I'll post the recipe soon.

I still haven't figured out what those muffins were.

Bre has been working hard at learning the art of photography, and is doing a tremendous job, even if I do say so myself. 🙂 Her goal is to be able to travel and shoot live shows, and I think her talent will get her there. (For you photo fiends, she used a Canon 7D and a 24-70 f/2.8L lens.)

Sabrina has taken up longboarding, which is a variant of skateboarding. I find her interests and hobbies to be so much fun – she's such a girly-girl on one hand, yet she can hang with the best of the boys who videogame (thanks to Big Papa, who raised the girls on gaming consoles and remote controls), loves organizing sand-volleyball games on campus, taught herself to play the guitar, and will soon be adding longboarding to her list of undertakings.

However, since Sabrina has to spend most of her time studying or working, Sophie has been secretly "borrowing" Bean's longboard and having a go of it herself.

    Tp 1

Lastly, Nicole has finished a wee model for me (in addition to all the other crazy stitching she's been finishing lately), which will be released at the April online needlework show.

    Tp 9

Btw, Bre has also been designing quite a bit lately, and Hodgepodge Cottage will have a few new releases as well in April!

And those are just a few of the in-betweens that have been going on around here. To those of you who have emailed to check up on me, I can't tell you how sweet it was to hear from you. I'll try my best to not be such a stranger. 🙂

    To and Fro

I've been extremely busy this past week getting organized around the house, finding any available space for the things we were able to haul from Kansas last week,  getting school and dorm shopping done, filling orders, and cleaning up the Yorkie's calling cards.

(And did I mention that Breanna has hired me to stitch her new models for her? For free? How is it, at 19 years old, she still has me wrapped around her finger?)

I did manage, however, to complete Sea Hag and get her photo taken this morning for a sneak. She'll be released in September at the St. Charles market, and I really hope you all like her!

    Sea Hag sneak tp

Guess I'd better get to Bre's models before she sees me sitting here slacking and fires me.

    On second thought…
