Crazy Kids

Hi.

During the last few days of school, Sophie and her fellow fifth-graders put together a "wax museum" of historical figures in order to help educate their underclassmen in a fun, new way. Each student was asked to choose an important person in US history and learn about them. Then they were instructed to find a costume – nothing purchased, and preferably from a closet at home or homemade – and be prepared to give a little speech about their person of choice to anyone who approached them and said "Hi."

Sophie chose Rosa Parks.

I was completely unsure of how to come up with a costume for that one, but we did our best. Using this image, we rummaged through my closet to find something as simple and reserved as possible…

When everyone finally had their costumes and facts organized, all the fifth graders lined the hallways in their costumes, their speeches hidden behind hand-held props, and waited for their wax museum visitors to arrive.

Of course, Sophie's mom and dad and oldest sister were in attendence. 😉

Mike said "Hi," and the Rosa Parks story commenced…

It was very noisy with all the wax figures talking at once, but it was still enjoyable listening to speeches from the likes of George Washington, Pocohontus, and Babe Ruth.

Wonderful job, Sophie! I hear Madame Toussads is hiring. 😉

This is cute. My daughter (Sophia) is also 11 and in the 5th grade, and she was Harriet Tubman in a wax museum earlier this year!

That’s fun! Definitely a great way to learn about historical characters. I love the costume and etc that you and Sophie put together — very nice!

Very interesting, you can tell Sophie I learned something! Being an Aussie I had to go and google Rosa Parks, I have learned something new today!
