It's been really hot here.
Like, the heat index has been around 115 degrees, and today was more of the same.
Mike announced that we were going to have a family golf day today.
Like, the heat index has been around 115 degrees.
So like a good wife and mom, I told the kids that today was a family golf day, and Breanna replied: "I don't do family golf days."
Me: (in a hushed tone) "Well, I don't either, but Dad wants to."
Breanna: (in a hushed tone) "Since when do we do what Dad wants?"
Me: (blank stare…then, in a hushed tone) "Well I don't know, but we should go."
Breanna: (louder) "You know it's gonna be like 115 degrees outside."
Mike: "EVERYONE READY TO GO?? THIS IS GONNA BE GREAT!!"
Breanna, Sabrina, Sophie, and Me: (blank stare)
Breanna ended up heading to the pool instead, but the other girls and I toughed it out and headed to a public golf course with Mike…
This is us, having the time of our lives…
Sabrina thought Mike announced that we'd be having Family Text Day…
Sophie got this buffalo club cover for her dad for Christmas one year. It's the one on the right…
Here are the girls, excitedly watching their father and waiting their turn…
Mike, giddy with Family Golf Day, demonstrates how to flex your forearms when you're swinging…
Sabrina demonstrates how to peeve your father by behaving like a non-golfing heathen…
But then she takes the game more seriously…
And then there's me, demonstrating why über-caucasians, such as myself, should not wear white-and-khaki clothing…
Here's Joonbug's put…
(That motorcycle burn from the day at the horse races is healing nicely.)
And here she is, teeing off on the last hole…
By the way, the last hole for Family Golf Day was the 2nd hole on the course. Yes, folks, we lasted for 2 whole holes.
This made Mike very sad, and he announced things like, "You guys aren't as hot as you think!" and "I golfed 6 straight days in Florida, and it was TWICE as hot as this!" and "It's gorgeous outside! What a day for golf!" (I don't think he noticed that we were the only ones on the course.)
So we loaded up in the golf carts and headed back to the car.
It's now about 10 pm, and the heat index is still, like, 115 degrees outside.
Maybe tomorrow we can have Family Obstacle Course Day.

I couldn’t possibly be out in that heatwave!! I get sick when it’s over 90. It was 65 today in my neck of the woods in Washington. But it’s supposed to be up in the 80s starting Wednesday. Your girls are so cute and real sports to give it a try for their Dad.
Julie
Too funny!! Thanks for the giggle!

doesn’t mike know that if you want to go golfing you have to be there at like 5:30 in the morning when the temp is only 85? not in the middle of the day when the heat index is 115?
oh, i can relate to the exciting time you and the girls had. and since i don’t know the first thing about golfing i just can’t relate to mikes excitement. i’m sure he had a great time, even if it was two holes?
at least in that white and kakhi you kept cool reflecting that hot, hot, hot sun!!!!
i enjoyed seeing the buffalo head…..????!!!

You guys are such good sports! I would have said are you crazy and headed to the pool with Breanna!
Margaret
There’s no way I would have gone! You all were good to last 2 holes. 115 degrees! Oy!

Poor Mike, but well done for at least trying to keep him happy, for a short while.
Sounds way to hot to be outside to me.
Catherine
Another funny family adventure. You were good sports to go – even if you only lasted two holes!
Deborah
You are better than I. Way to hot for me to do anything outside. I hope he you’ll to a really nice air conditioned resturant for dinner.

Paulette, your “original comedic stylings” are the best. I like them as much as your designs, which is saying something as I Really like those.
Thanks for clearing up my confusion on the Buffalo pic. lol!
Also, I’d have to venture an estimation that I’m even paler than you; I think I might even be able to best your Sabrina. So I know the woe of wishing to wear that summer white. So clean, so refreshing, so indistinguishable from my skin in bright light. Sigh. My solution was to get a Filipino boyfriend and dress him in white for admiration. I think my lifelong “White Bikini” aspirations (even vicariously through him) are a wash though.
